My mom and dad...

Megs and Tanner...

and if you're wondering where Scottie is, it's because he is....

one of those security dudes in the white shirts, making sure that all the little girls don't maul the Jonas Brothers to death.

And all the fireworks!

After the show I finally got to meet up with my man!
.... and we spent the rest of the night in traffic!  We got fed up with it so we decided to pull over and get some ice cream and the Creamery while we waited it out.  Good idea babe!

Happy Fourth!

Are You Hiring???

Since we have been back from Europe I knew I was going to have a lot of down time. Now don't get me wrong, I love having nothing to do...sometimes. But lets be realistic. When I have nothing to do I:

-eat
-watch pointless T.V.
-eat
-watch more pointless T.V.

Now, lets get back to the story. Lets go back to the year 2006 when I graduated from Southern Utah University and set off to find a real career. I remember interviewing for jobs and how badly I hated interviews. When I received news of my first REAL job I was so excited! Not only was I going to have a real job, but I thought my search for "lame jobs to get me through college" days were over. I would never have to work at Macey's as a checker, sell hair extensions to hair stylists, and tanning packages to the avid tanner..... That is until I realized that teachers get summers off? Now, I'm not complaining. Like I said I enjoy having nothing to do sometimes for a change and I'm grateful that my job allows me to do so (in the summer that is). But after a week of having nothing to do I got pretty board and the search for a job was lingering in the back of my mind. Sure, it would be nice to find something small to keep me busy and it wouldn't hurt to earn a little extra cash on the side. But then the thought of finding a desirable place to work, filling out applications and having to update my resume did not sound like a fun way to spend my summer. The next thing I knew was the thought of those dreaded interviews in which I thought I would never have to do again, popped into my head and I quickly rethought about getting a summer job at all. After all, I was going back to school in a month in a half anyway. It would be pointless to apply, interview, get hired, trained, and then put in my two weeks.....it didn't seem feasible. That's when I asked my mom if there was something I could do to help. She was planning my sisters wedding and seemed a little overwhelmed at the time. She asked me if I could go into Four Chairs and order her some footstools to go in the bathrooms. Of course I said yes and the next day I found myself at Four Chairs. At this point I had made up my mind that getting a job was out, I was ordering the stools and making conversation with the girl that was working and said....

Me: "So do you like working here? It looks like a fun place to work?"
Girl Working, jumps up and says: "Yes it is! Are you looking for a job!!"
Me: "Well, funny that you'd ask I guess I kind of am?"
Girl Working: "Do you have any interior design experience?"
Me: "Umm, nope?"
Girl Working: "Well, do you have any sales experience?"
Me:"Uh...sure?"
Girl Working: "Well It's okay, when I started here I didn't know anything, I can teach you."

That's when I said...

Me: "Well it would only be a summer job because I teach school?"

She then got a sad look on her face about the fact that I REALLY was not qualified for the position. This is when I became desperate and told her...

Me: "But I can work Saturdays?"
Girl working: "Let me get your name & number and I'll ask my manager if it would work and I'll call you."

At this point I was feeling a little, no WAY, under-qualified and and thought I would never get the job. In fact, my husband was laughing at the fact of how I was not helping the situation at all by saying "It's ok you don't have to hire me? I wouldn't be good at it anyway?" So to make this already long story short, she took my name and number and said she would talk to her manager. We left and I began to think about how ironic that they needed someone and how I needed something. How nice would it be if I got the job and didn't even have to hunt for one? About an hour later she called me and asked if I could come in on Monday for an interview. Of course I said yes and the next thing I knew I was freaking out because I HATE interviews! Well, monday rolled around sooner that I had hoped. I stressed about what to wear and even thought of appropriate responses to the typical interview questions. Boy was I shaky. I instantly convinced myself that if i didn't get the job I was not going to keep looking. In fact I would never step foot in there again so I wouldn't have to be embarrassed of the fact that I was rejected! Turns out after all that stressing I walked right in and had the most easy interview of my life! We talked about everything from girls camp to temple open houses and they didn't even ask me for a resume or work experience. She didn't even ask me any questions! I was loving life! About a week later, they called and offered me the job!
I was so happy that I didn't have to go store to store looking for one. And I am extremely excited that I will still get to work a little once school starts so that HOPEFULLY I can have a job next summer and bypass the whole "Are you hiring?" process all together. :-)

Beatles Mania

Scottie took me to see Beatles Mania for my birthday (since we were gone). We went with my sister Megs and her soon to be husband Tanner. It was a lot of fun since I LOVE the Beatles. They sounded and looked just like the Beatles! Thanks babe for always making my birthday so fun! (picture to come!!)

Megan & Tanner's Wedding

The night before Megs and Tanner got married they had a big family dinner.   It was so fun and I'm so excited that my little sis is marrying such a good guy. He has such a neat family and we are so excited for the two of them. At their dinner Tanner's family prepared some pretty funny entertainment. They sang the song "A Bicycle Built for Two" and of course they changed the lyrics so it was hilarious. Then both families got up and did "The Top Ten Reasons Megs and Tanner Should Get Married." It was quite funny as well. But best of all Tanner got up and sang Megs a song. I thought it was so cute! Way to go Tanner!

My parents also woke up to a wonderful mess in their backyard the day before the wedding. Someone had put soap in the waterfall so it looked like this....

Thankfully they got it all cleaned up just in time for the reception the next day.
On June 27th Megs and Tanner got married in the Salt Lake Temple, and are now officially Mr. & Mrs. Ham. Their wedding was so beautiful and the reception was a blast!! CONGRATS!!!

Good for the Heart

Since Scottie has signed up for the Saint George Marathon, he has been running his little guts out!  Since I like to run I thought it would be fun to train together.... until he starts geting into the higher digits that is.  I was a little worried that maybe I should have stayed solo, but I think I surprised myself!  Lately Scottie and I have been running up to the temple and back which is five miles from our house.  I usually just go for three and call it quits.  Tonight we ran up to the high school and back which is a grand total of 8 1/2 miles!!! As for me, well I have really enjoyed running with my sweetheart for a few good reasons like...

-I get to spend more time with my man
-Scottie is my personal cheerleader.  He is constantly cheering me on when I feel like walking instead of running
-Men work out harder, therefore....I work out harder.
-We talk about our day, buying a house, work, funny stories and before you know it we've gone a mile
-I get to run through the sprinklers (yay!)
-It makes me appreciate my man more because I KNOW he can run a lot faster and a lot further but he sticks with me instead of leaving me in the dust
-It feels really good when I'm done
-It's good for the heart....in more than one way ;-)

Thanks babe for pushing me!! Love you!

Scottie finally came home from his THREE MONTH accouting internship with
RSM McGladrey. I was so excited to finally have him home that I got a little carried away with the signs...

Chelcie helped me put up missing posters around the house....we thought we were pretty funny.

I'm so glad to have Scottie home so I can finally:
-hang out with him
-snuggle before bedtime
-go on a date
-not be so lonely
-not be scared that someone will try to break in my house....haha
-have him kill the spiders
-make dinner for two
there's so much more but I won't bore you

Welcome home babe!!

April

For Easter weekend we met up with Scott's family in Brianhead. We stayed at the Spruce Haven Cabin just like last year! We had a blast playing card games, eating junk and of course....hitting the slopes!

Scottie and I in an intense game of California Speed....I always get so frustrated because I never win.

Me & Josie (Scottie's Niece)

I think Scottie is about to sneeze in this one...sorry babe.

While we were skiing they had people skiiing/boarding down the hill and then across this big pool of water! I don't think I would have the guts to do this mainly because you have to gain a lot of speed to get across the water to avoid falling in (going to fast freaks me out) and second of all I wouldn't want to go for a dip in the frigid waters? But it was fun entertainment.

I think this guy sprayed us all....and then I was done.

Happy Easter!

May

The month of May is every teachers favorite month. Not only because school is finally out but because of Teacher Appreciation Week! This years theme was Rock Star Teachers. Each day they pampered us with Breakfast or Lunch (which was always yummy) and they set out each teachers favorite snack throughout the day to munch on during recess or prep! On Friday they had us dress up like rock stars and the teachers got to play Rock Band during the assembly for the kids! I think I have the best room mothers in the whole world!! Each day for the whole week they would come in for an hour and kick me out to "Go take a break, kick my feet up, call my husband" While I was away they were secretly getting to work for a surprise. Every day after lunch I would come back and find these wonderful pieces of work! Thanks Marilyn & Amy It really was a fantastic pamper week :-)

My rockin A-track class
Me and my little Ash, gotta love this girl! I think I'll stick with being blond and stay away from the pixie.

The Heartbreakers (band members left to right: Misty Hall, Christie Lamb, Christine Mair, Chelcie Christensen). Yes, we did perform live in front of the whole school. Can you guess who was nominated to sing?
The last day of school was really sad. I have really grown close to all of my kids & parents this year and wish I could have them again next year. Scottie always laughs because at the beginning of each school year I always freak out that my kids personalities aren't as cute and fun as my last class, but then I always end up TOTALLY loving them and not wanting to let them go to second grade. I know.... I'm a mixed up teacher.
